The Dolomites: Rufugio Pomedes

26 Jan 2020, Posted by Elliot Hook in dolomites, landscapes, trips

This is the fourth in the series of blog posts featuring images taken at different location across the Dolomites, back in September 2019.  This time, from Rifugio Pomedes – a rifugio in the heart of the Tofane mountain group, just outside Cortina d’Ampezzo.  For a good portion of the year, both summer and winter, it is easily accessible by a chair lift (or by staying in the rifugio) but in the down season it required a short, sweaty, up hill walk from a parking spot on the Località Dibona.

The view was, again, fantastic; incorporating the Croda da Lago range, Monte Pemlo, Cinque Torri and more.  I think it’s probably one of the more overshot views in the Dolomites, due to the easy access, but you can see why.  Who wouldn’t want to shoot the rugged mountains and tree covered hill sides in the early morning light….

And here’s a slightly closer view over Croda da Lago and Monte Pelmo, and a frame filling shot of those trees…

So, that’s it from Rifugio Pomedes.  Next up is Piz Boè.
